Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Blackbaud
Rich Friedberg is the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for Blackbaud, with more than 20 years of cyber security leadership experience across the financial sector and government national security programs.
Prior to joining Blackbaud, Rich was responsible for cyber security for the Credit Card division of Capital One, one of the nations largest banks. While there, he led strategic efforts to enable large-scale technology transformation programs and secure public cloud adoption. Rich also served as the Deputy Director of the CERT® Coordination Center (CERT/CC), a Department of Defense R&D center operated by Carnegie Mellon University. Rich led teams focused on cyber security research and development, strategic advisory services, and providing operational guidance to numerous government agencies. During his tenure, Rich played a pivotal role in advancing national-level network defense programs, supported several of the nation’s largest data breaches, and worked to advance the US Government’s capabilities to track nation state actors. Prior to joining CERT/CC, Rich led teams at Fannie Mae across security engineering, operations, threat intelligence, electronic discovery, and incident response.
Rich holds a BS from Carnegie Mellon University, an MBA from George Washington University, as well as CISSP and CISM certifications. Rich is also an adjunct instructor and executive coach at Carnegie Mellon University’s CISO program.
